jump on these new deals (and improve your soil over winter)

I typically don't like to send more than one email about Amazon Prime Big Deal Days (which ends tonight at 11:59 pm!) but a new deal just popped up that you should know about:

I own this exact leaf mulcher and it's 36% off today, which is less than what I originally bought it for! When I got it a few years ago, I used it to shred over 50 yard bags of fallen leaves. (I know... it was a task!) This mulcher handled the workload with zero problems, and I continue to use it each year to make leaf mulch for my raised beds.

(I'm using this collapsible leaf waste bin, which fits perfectly underneath the Worx mulcher.)

Leaves are an excellent free mulch that you can use to protect your soil over winter, and as the leaves decompose, they stimulate microbes, add nutrients, and improve the soil structure. (This is one of the ways you can nurse tired soil back to health over winter.)

You can also use shredded leaves as the brown material for your compost pile (keep a trash can's worth handy so you always have browns to toss in with your kitchen scraps).

Shredded leaves break down faster, and it's crucial to chop them up because thick piles of whole leaves can become matted over winter, making it so air and moisture have a hard time reaching the soil. The Worx mulcher can condense 11 bags of leaves into just 1 bag, so you can easily turn acres of leaves into mulch or compost.

(If you don't have leaves, you might want to check out what else I recommend using for a mulch—these are my favorite organic materials, and most of them are free. Don't leave your garden beds uncovered this winter.)

A few other deals that caught my eye today:

  • Hoselink retractable hose - This isn't an official Amazon Prime deal, but Hoselink is currently offering a 10% discount on their charcoal-colored automatic retractable garden hose reel. (The discount isn't even available on their own site.) I have this same hose and love how tidy it keeps the yard!
  • Worx folding work table - My husband has had this for several years and it's an indispensable part of his garage gear. If you do lots of house projects, this table is extremely sturdy, versatile, and convenient. (And it's 25% off right now!) It can also be turned into a sawhorse that supports 1,000 pounds!
  • Barebones garden scissors - Scissors are my most-used gardening tool, and this pair is super sharp, sturdy, and attractive with its walnut handles. I've had mine for a few years and it's a workhorse. (Now 39% off—a really good deal!)
  • EcoFlow electric generator - This has been on my mind all day because our neighborhood has had two power outages since last night, and while our house was lucky with only a few minutes' downtime, our neighbors lost power for almost 10 hours. If you don't have a solution for power outages, blackouts, or emergencies, this generator is worth looking into. You'll need to compare generators that have enough power to run the appliances and devices you need, but this model can power a fridge, computer, garage door opener, and small electronics. (All of them are on sale today for up to 35% off.)
  • Ettitude bamboo sheets - I had no idea my favorite bedding brand has products on Amazon, but I just found these by chance today (and they're 20% off!). These are the sheets I currently have on my bed and they're the best sheets I've ever used (which is saying a lot, as I've also gone through several sets of linen, Egyptian cotton, and hemp bedding). They're made from a silky soft sateen weave that feels amazing to slip into, and the same set I got three years ago still looks great.
  • Superfood facial cleanser - This one isn't home or garden related, but I couldn't not share my favorite facial cleanser which is 25% off today. A little goes a long way and I love how gentle the formula is. (It has kale, spinach, and green tea in it.)

I've added these new deals to my Amazon Prime Big Deal Days guide, and also want to remind you that I'm giving away TWO $500 Amazon gift cards!

Head to that blog post to find out how to enter for your chance to win. (The giveaway is only open to Garden Betty followers and it ends tonight!)
